About Blue Santa

As a volunteer program of the Georgetown Police Department, Blue Santa has provided toys to low-income children annually for more than 15 years. In 2007 more than 1,300 Georgetown children received toys from Blue Santa. Donations are deposited in the account of the Police Activities League, a nonprofit for community programs such as Blue Santa.

Each year, the Georgetown Police Department, its department volunteers, and volunteer individuals and businesses join forces to hold special events or set up donation barrels to collect toys. Toys are sorted into age-appropriate categories and special Christmas boxes are filled for families who apply for assistance.

Distribution day is a big event for Blue Santa families. Children get to meet Blue Santa and participate in fun activities while parents or guardians pick up gift boxes at the distribution center.

Other holiday programs in Georgetown include Project Share and Brown Santa. Collection barrels for both programs are at many businesses and offices in Georgetown.

Applications for Project Share, which provides food to low-income families during the holidays, should be made at The Caring Place.

For information about Brown Santa, a program of the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to provide toys for children who live in Williamson County outside City Limits of towns that provide a similar program, call (512) 943-1322.

The Caring Place is a social service agency in Georgetown. Each month, The Caring Place helps families in crisis with thousands of dollars in financial assistance for utility payments, rent, gas costs, prescriptions, and other basic needs. The Caring Place also is distributing food for more than 500 families for Thanksgiving dinner. To contact The Caring Place, call (512) 869-4735.
